Cube Decorating
I got this little card for free from nuns at a monastery on Crete. They were so thankful that I bought something from their store (which was FULL of beautiful and handmade things) that they handed me this.
The sticker, which has appeared on my stream before here and here, is part of the amazing and inspirational campaign at You Are Beautiful, where they are trying to spread a little happiness and love with free stickers and a wonderful message.
Anyway, I found both of these in my wallet today and I thought they would be great paired and in my cube for me to see every day.
I am not religious… not at all really, but I am drawn to the icon for two reasons. My art history background has provided me with enough knowledge and history to be extremely interested in icons. Of course, this one has particular experience because it is mother and child… and as I type this I realize it is also mother with a child she will lose. Hmm…. Even more significance now. Still not religious though, just powerfully symbolic, as I believe most religious belief is based on anyway.

Brava! Religion is based entirely on powerful symbolic meaning. Whatever is symbolic to you and makes you feel at peace with yourself and the world should be your very own religion.
I love them both and I agree you don’t have to be religious to be interested in those kind of images. I went to two catholic schools and although I am not, and never have been, catholic – I used to love the church sessions, just so I could look around me in the building itself.
I love all the rich, beautiful colours, wonderful golds and silvers – heavenly.
Literally.
I’d love to a picture of your cube one day – I wish I had one!
i’m not religious at all, but love the symbolism. i have little statues of religious icons and love what they all stand for…plus i know it drives my mother absolutely batty! she’s way too concrete to understand what an atheist would want from a statue of the virgin mary. makes perfect sense to me, though. nice postcard.
Lovely! I think decorating your work space is one of the most fun parts of a new job – especially when you have lovely (and powerful!) things like this to use!
I like the postcard too. And the sentiment.
